Some are obvious, others are not, it particularly seems to get complex during the portions where the Civil Wars are going on. But in my mind this has always seems like a good way to order them.
Hell
Starting with Hell as we first learned about the existence of Hell before the existence of Heaven.1. Azazel - Seasons 1 & 2
Although it’s never said outright, we are certainly led to believe that Azazel very much runs the show in Hell for the first two Seasons, and the plan that he was trying to fulfill is carried on by the rulers of Hell until Season 5.
We know very little about Azazel’s background and nothing is directly confirmed or stated on the show, although rumors label Azazel as a fallen angel, as the Biblical character himself from the Book of Enoch was just that, and it would explain what the yellow eyes signify.
Killed by: Dean Winchester2. Lilith - Season 3 & 4
No doubts that Lilith runs the show here. She is the one giving the orders and sending out Demons to break the seals, as well as possessing Dean’s soul after it’s sold to a crossroad’s demon. Lilith has white eyes and is the first Demon that Lucifer created, making her one of the oldest occupants of Hell. The story goes that originally it was Lilith and Adam in the Garden until Lilith was corrupted and God replaced her with Eve. Hence this would make her even older than Cain.
Killed by: Sam Winchester3. Lucifer - Season 5
Yeah he hated Demons, but the Demons loved him (Crowley aside). Lucifer ruled Hell through Season 5, able to get Demons even to kill themselves at a simple request. Ultimately his game was to wipe out humans and Demons alike, but this ended when Sam threw him and Michael into the bit, trapping all three of them in the darkest prison of Hell (Along with Adam who was being possessed by Michael at the time).
Killed by: Not actually dead, but thrown into the pit by Sam Winchester.4. Crowley - Season 6, 7, 8, 9?
The first to officially use the title ‘King of Hell’, Crowley quickly resumes control of Hell following Lucifer’s return to the pit. Unless we have been misled and there is something different about him to, then Crowley is the first normal Demon to become King of Hell. Unlike his predecessors Crowley has more interesting in maintaining a balance between Hell, Earth and Heaven, by simply managing the Crossroads, if a human summons them and signs away their soul, provided Hell keeps up its end of the bargain then it’s all fair game, as he would see it. But Crowley also likes to meddle in the affairs of Earth and Heaven, often with one eye and informants in both. While in Season 6,7 & 8 he seems to love his job, this starts to waver a little from Season 9 onwards. He appears to still want to be King of Hell, but prefers spending time on Earth and with the Winchesters. Going AWOL from Hell quite a few times in these two Seasons.
Removed: Loses control of Hell after being kidnapped by the Winchesters and becoming addicted to Human Blood.5. Abadon? - Season 9?
Crowley certainly makes his return to the position by the end of the Season, but for a while Hell is split between them and Abadon certainly seems to control more of actual Hell itself during this time as Crowley spends very little time there. Crowley didn’t regain his position through the support of the Demons, he simply took it back after he helped the Winchesters to kill Abadon.
Killed by: Dean Winchester6. Crowley - Season 10
Back on the throne now Abadon is gone, Crowley appears to have less interest in it now, rather neglecting his job and showing disdain for the other Demons in favor of the Winchesters.Heaven
Heaven became something we were aware of in Season 4, prior to that being told there was no such thing as Angels, Heaven or God.
1. Michael - Season 4 & 5
The oldest of the Archangels, it seems to have been that Michael has ruled Heaven since God left, with the help of Zachariah at his right hand. Michael very much drove the idea of getting the Apocalypse on track, where he could possess Dean and Lucifer would possess Sam and he would ultimately win by having to kill his brother. Michael in the end possessed the Winchester’s younger brother Adam instead and was thrown into The Pit with Sam and Lucifer at the end of Season 5.
Killed by: Not actually dead, but thrown into the pit by Sam Winchester.2. Raphael - Season 6
One of the other Archangel brothers, and apparently (at this point) the only one either alive or free from the Pit, Raphael plans to free his brothers from The Pit and restart the Apocalypse, apparently just continuing the regime of Michael before he is killed by Castiel. This is a Civil War period though, even though while alive Raphael controls Heaven, Castiel has the loyalties of many other Angels who rebel against Heaven to join him.
Killed by: Castiel3. Castiel - Season 6
Having been brought back by God he takes it upon himself as a sign that God has work for him, and that work is in taking control of Heaven. Cas works alongside Crowley to secure both their positions as rulers of their realms to get into Purgatory and absorb the souls there to essentially make their position unchallengeable. This backfires and Cas absorbs all the souls, including the Leviathans that sneak along for the road and escape into Earth after apparently having killed Castiel, but not before he kills Raphael.
Removed: Vanished after killing RaphaelSeason 7
All goes quiet in Heaven during Season 7, though with the disappearance of Castiel and the death of Raphael, we learn that Heaven has thrown itself into turmoil, unsure what to do now the Archangels and their only alternative hope of Castiel are gone. At some point here, Naomi seems to manage to take control.4. Naomi - Season 8
Her position is not secure, and we learn that the Civil War is still raging in Heaven around her, but Naomi appears to be sitting on top for now. She doesn’t appear to be focused on returning to the Apocalypse, more in just returning Heaven to normal and bringing about the bureaucratic peace that they need. She uses Castiel, brain washing him to get him to assassinate Dean and collect the tablets for her, before Crowley gets his hands on them. Naomi’s allegiance is a little gray, as while she did try to get Cas to kill Dean, she has a change of heart remembering that the mission of the angels was to try and protect humanity, and ultimately tries to warn them about Metatron, before being killed herself by him.
Killed by: Metatron5. Bartholomew - Season 9
After the Angels fall, Bartholomew appears to secure control, helping the angels to secure vessels and setting them about working under him. Bartholomew still sees Castiel as a threat though and attempts to persuade him to join sides with him, when he refuses Bartholomew tries to kill him, only to be killed by Castiel instead. Many of the angels that worked for Bartholomew join with Castiel after this.
Killed by: Castiel6. Metatron - Season 9
Initially happy to just have Heaven to himself, it isn’t until a little later in the Season Metatron sets his eyes on ruling.
Again things become a little flaky here as Heaven again splits between Castiel and Metatron, variating between sides and numbers. But Metatron controls Heaven which would put him in a more secure position as Ruler, particularly as Castiel himself states that he doesn’t want to rule - fearful that he’ll repeat what happened in Season 6.
Rather than just ruling Heaven, Metatron attempts to become the new God by channeling the power of the Angel Tablets and trying to write his own story. He is brought down but not killed, instead being seized by the Angels when they turn against him after revealing his terrorist attacks to make Castiel look bad. He now resides in the prison of Heaven.
Removed: Locked in the Prison of Heaven by the other Angels.7. Castiel? - Season 10
Again it’s a little uncertain here as Castiel doesn’t want to rule and the angels appear to be working in more of a commune way with no distinct Leaders, but Castiel does seem to call the shots, if he says ‘Stop’ the angels are meant to stop, when he says 'Go’ they’re meant to go, Castiel seems to have this conviction as do a few of the others - perhaps proving ultimately that with the exception of a few odd angels, most really do only know how to take orders.
So in the credits of Supernatural, Jared Padalecki is always listed first. This may be due to being alphabetized (Jared vs Jensen) but I always wondered, who really is the main character? Sam or Dean? I believe they flip flop from season to season, which, while keeping the same two characters, keeps things fresh. Let’s start with Season 1:
Season 1 shows Dean as the more prominent figure in the picture (and subsequently in the season). Some may say that this is more Sam’s season because of his demon issues and the loss of Jessica. However, in season 1, Sam is still very much the little brother, and Dean the older. It is Dean who is leading the fight, keeping with his mission to find his Dad. Sam is most oftentimes the add on and the one still contemplating leaving the life. Therefore, it is Dean who is more of the constant direct presence in the season.
Season 2 is a little trickier to analyze because the first thought that comes to mind is that this is very much Sam’s season with the manifestation of his powers via the yellow eyed demon. However, Dean still plays an extremely important role. After John tells Dean about Sam and that he might have to kill him, Dean becomes the protector of Sam- even more so than he was his entire life. Dean is also still running the pursuit of the yellow eyed demon. Each play an equal role in this season, hence their near equal placement.
Season 3 brings the issue of Dean going to hell. This one is very simple. You see Dean in the back looking off camera- a very troubled, preoccupied look. While Dean doesn’t show it, he is extremely scared to go to hell, hence his wayward glance. Sam is shown as the dominant player in the photo due to his active pursuit to help Dean get out of his deal and his overall protectiveness of Dean.
Season 4 shows Dean and Sam again as equals. This sets up the stage for their equal, yet opposite roles as the vessels of Lucifer and Michael. We also see Castiel for the first time as he comes as a major supporting character for the show.
Like Season 4, Season 5 shows Dean and Sam as equals as they come to terms with their roles as the vessels of Michael and Lucifer.
Season 6 shows Sam as the prominent figure due to this season being very “Sam-heavy”. Sam comes back without his soul and then has to struggle with the ramifications of getting his soul back and in one piece again. The snake is representative of Sam’s ability to be cruel with no soul as well as piecing himself together- including the more sinful and dangerous parts of himself. Dean with his arms crossed can represent his wariness around Sam and his issues with Soulless!Sam and his unease with the after effects.
Season 7 shows the two almost equally again, but with Dean being a little more prominent. Without an obvious reason why he is more prominent, it could be because of the growth of the show and the fan’s gravitation towards the character of Dean.
Season 8is also a bit tricky. You would think Sam would be up front because it is him completing the trials, but it is Dean. This can be seen as a representation of Dean’s fierce protectiveness over Sam in this season because he doesn’t want to see Sam get hurt. He is ready to take on anything that comes his way. The weapon in his hand can also be representative of his time in Purgatory which we get to see in season 8. You should also notice the scenery next to the two men. Next to Sam is dark, stormy, and dangerous, representing hell and the gates Sam is trying to close, especially with the fire on the ground. Next to Dean it is sunnier and brighter representing either the better light in Purgatory or the fact that Dean is on a brighter path than Sam’s dangerous quest.
The cover for Season 9has just been released! Here we see Sam as the prominent figure due to his continuing struggle with the effects of the trials and his problems with Gadreel. It is not until later does Dean encounter his problems with the Mark of Cain, so he is less prominent. While Dean’s problem was a major plot line in Season 9, the season deals heavily with angels, in which Sam is involved. Castiel is also seen again for the first time since the season 4 cover due to his increasing role as a fallen angel in this season.
Hope you like my analysis! Reblog with comments!
Spoiler:
After Lex dies, Driggs goes back to New York and starts to talk to her parents. He takes care of them, becomes friends with them, and it helps ease the pain of her death. After a few years he thinks he can start dating again, so he goes out on his first date with a girl name Hazel. On the date he admits to her that his last girlfriend died, so he could live and that he was still very much in love with her. Hazel explains how her last boyfriend died of cancer. They tell each other the adventures they both spent with their lost ones and eventually they fall into a mutual sadness of okay. One day Driggs takes Hazel to meet Lex’s parents. He introduces them saying
“This is Lex’s parents, you guys this is Hazel.”
Lex’s parents are so confused, their memory was wiped of ever having twin daughters. Driggs forgot their memory was erased, and when they question him about it, he tries to cover it up but they know he’s lying.
Driggs is forced to tell Lex’s parents about Cordy, how she died, and Lex how she saved the afterlife and him. How she sacrificed herself so he could live. By the end of explaining it all they are broken. They can’t stand, tears are falling down their faces like rain, and they can’t handle it anymore. Hazel stands by and watches all of this go by, she feels helpless. She feels like she felt when Augusts was diagnosed with cancer again. Like whatever she did, it wouldn’t save him or help him. He was destined to die just as Lex was. She silently calls a Taxi and leaves.
The next day she tries to call Driggs but he doesn’t answer, she calls and calls when finally someone picks up.
“Im sorry but Driggs, died in a car accident last night. He was driving away from our house, he was crying, and he didn’t see the truck. It hit him from the drivers side and he died instantly.” It was Lex’s parents. Their voices were hoarse as if they were crying or had been. Hazel then felt it again. That helpless feeling, she couldn’t save Augusts and she couldn’t save Driggs. Ever so slowly she sits down and hangs up. She goes out to her car, and goes to a park she lives near. She takes out her oxygen and she slowly dies in the middle of a park, by the merry to round.
Most of the time, I try to do spellwork with the intent aligned with a specific element in order to use the energy of that element. Here are some ideas for choosing a type of spell based on its elemental alignment.
Water
- charge herbs, stones, etc and throw into a moving body of water, such as a river, stream, or ocean. You can use a pond or lake, but I think the moving water has more effect.
- Take a ritual bath with oils or herb blends suited for your purpose. The bath itself is cleansing, and soaking in the herbs, oils, and water while focusing on intent/chanting can be super powerful.
- Carve runes or sigils into soap or bath bomb and use in bath. As the runes/sigil disappear, the spell is released.
- Draw sigils into dirt with a stick/finger, let rain wash it away or pour water over it to release (this is also an earth spell)
- Make teas/potions with edible(be careful!) herbs
- Do a blessing or chant over wine or other beverages for yourself or to share any time (kitchen witchery is fantastic!)
- Wash items with blessed and charged water to cleanse and purify. This can be ritual tools or just anything that you feel needs to be cleansed of negative energy.
Earth
- Carve names, words, runes or sigils, into fruit and bury in a pot of dirt or in the ground. Good for things that you want to have manifest slowly.
- For permanent effect, bury something that will not decompose, such as a stone or a glass bottle filled with items, herbs, images, etc.
- Carve spells into wood or burn symbols into wood.
- Recharge stones by burying them in dirt, sand, or salt
- Collect dirt or sand from locations with good energy to use in rituals
- Cooking! Specifically baking. (this can also be a fire spell, depending on what your’re making)
Air
- Make incense
- Place charms and other charged items in high locations or tie them onto tree branches
- Astral or dream work
- Create wind chimes or charms to hang in windows or outside near your home
- Use incense to cleanse items and banish negative energy from your home
Fire
- Write sigils, names, words, runes, etc on paper and burn. This can be used for manifestation or banishing
- Use bonfires to raise energy
- Fire gazing or fire scrying
- Candle magick
- Sex magick
- Burn carves wax figures for banishing
- Write on bay leaves and burn or place on an incense coal
- Again, cooking!
These are just my associations and methods that I find useful. There are of course countless other options!

At the party, Alec meet a guy with very strange eyes who turn out to be the host, and also Slytherin Prefect.

i think the thing people need to remember is that Sam Winchester, the 6′5 hunk of wall that’s gone to hell and is all kinds of badass, wears flare jeans
